Map My Folder

Maps a folder so the next reader opens one file, not all of them.

The situation

A folder has grown for two years and the person who knows it is you. Anyone else who opens it — a new hire, or a tool with no memory of last week — has to read all of it to change one thing.

What actually happens

  1. You give it the path to that folder. Not a description of it.
  2. It reads what is there and works out what each part is for.
  3. It writes a short list, then one card per thing, each saying what breaks if you change it.
  4. The next reader opens the list and one card, and stops.

Where it stops

Each card has to pass a check before it is written. Its rules put it as checks, not advice — a card that fails does not get written, so you get a shorter map rather than a padded one.
